Avast has reported 21 malicious games with adware features in the Google Play Store. All these 21 games look and feel like normal apps. But in the reality, they show intrusive ads, along with attracting users to download other apps and games like this one.

Worse, almost all of these 21 games are available for download on the Google Play Store.

These 21 apps and games identified by Avast are included in the adware category. That is, even though certain 21 apps and games do not steal any data (a) or do any other malicious work, they do lead users to "unsuspecting" ads under the guise of monetization. As soon as these apps are installed on Android they start showing ads.


To date, these 21 apps and games have been downloaded (in total) about eight million times, according to Censor Tower data.

On the download pages of some of these 21 apps, there are complaints that specific apps claim to have caught their attention through YouTube ads, have a different game than the one displayed, and that excessive ads occupy the smartphone after downloading the game.

“Adware developers use social media channels as much as regular marketers. In the case of these 21 apps, they seem to be targeting ads that promote games via YouTube. This is how we saw the spread of adware through Dictac last September,” said Avast Thread analyst

This type of software disguises itself as a secure and effective app but displays many intrusive ads. To prevent them from being removed from the device, they follow certain strategies such as hiding their logos and displaying ads with the appropriate appearance, making them difficult to identify and remove.
