A disease without treatment

In recent years there have been thousands of infections in central and western Africa, but cases are rare in Europe and North America.

There is no treatment for monkeypox, which is spread by contact with an infected person or their bodily fluids and goes away on its own. According to the WHO, symptoms last between 14 and 21 days.

Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and fatigue.

Rashes (on the face, palms of the hands, soles of the feet), lesions, pustules, and finally scabs then appear.
