The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) has said that it has received credible reports of abuses of authority in Pakistan.

"We are setting up a working group on this issue. We are currently gathering accurate information about what happened. We welcome any evidence and reliable news," it wrote on its official Twitter handle on Monday.

IHRF's statement regarding the current political situation in Pakistan and safety recommendations for civilians

  1. We ask soldiers and police officers in Pakistan to disobey any unjust or illegal orders they receive.
  2. We ask soldiers and police officers in Pakistan to refuse to use violence against peaceful and unarmed citizens.
  3. We ask citizens to take special protective measures for children, the elderly, and those with special needs by keeping them away from conflict zones.
  4. We invite citizens to maintain a peaceful attitude during protests and avoid clashes with violent elements.
  5. We ask citizens to record and photograph any violent activities they observe, share them, and forward them along with the date, time, and place where they were taken to facilitate subsequent criminal investigations into police brutality.
  6. We recommend that citizens take self-protection measures: reduce the chances of their faces being recorded or photographed by violent agents, avoid being followed, go accompanied when leaving protests, and avoid going directly home.
  7. We demand that Pakistani authorities allow a peaceful and orderly transition to democracy through free and genuine elections by universal suffrage with free, secret, direct, and equal voting.
  8. We demand that authorities show the utmost respect for political opponents.
  9. We demand that authorities immediately release all individuals under arbitrary arrest.
  10. We demand that authorities refrain from using fake news, harming or appropriating the dignity of national symbols and public institutions (which belong to all citizens), and respect the religious conscience of all individuals.
